Sheryl Don “Peg” Reed, 88, of Belle Center, Ohio, passed away on Friday, May 29, 2026, at Logan Acres Care Center. She was born on February 13, 1938, in Bellefontaine, Ohio to the late Donald Delas and Sarah Melissa (McCalla) Rhoades. She is also preceded in death by her brother, Aubrey Dean Rhoades.
On February 15, 1958, she married John Edward Reed and he survives in Bellefontaine.
She is also survived by her children: Donald R. Reed of Belle Center, Doug R. Reed of Belle Center, Georganna Reed (David McLean) of Centerville, MA, James G. (Heather) Reed of Belle Center, Joseph E. Reed of Bellefontaine; grandchildren: Lindsey (Brian) Fine of Casstown, Ohio, Matthew (Haley) Reed of Kenton, Whitney (Chris) Shaw of Lebanon, Ohio, Zachary Reed of Lakeview, Ohio, Joshua (Andrea) Reed of Belle Center, Justin (Brianne) Reed or Royal Oak, MI, Tyler Reed of Belle Center; great grandchildren: Luke, Levi, Adelyn, and Silas Robinson, Emma Louise and Theodore Reed, Colton, Bria, Remi, and Carter Shaw, Benjamin, Abigail, Emma Jane, Alyssa, Ellery, Logan and Lucy Reed.
Peg was a 1956 graduate of Belle Center High School. She then went on to obtain her Bachelor of Science in Education from The Ohio State University in 1969 and her Master of Arts in 1984. She worked for Ridgemont Local Schools and Upper Arlington City School. Her and her fellow teacher, Peggy Harrison were the subject of the 1990 book Sunrise and Song by Amy McClure. This work explored the process that Peg and Peggy went through in order to teach poetry to children at Ridgemont Elementary School in the 1980s.
Peg enjoyed bird watching and was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes fan.
There will be a graveside service for Peg on Friday, June 5, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Fairview, Belle Center Cemetery.
