Nathan Douglas Weber, lovingly known as Nate, age 83, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.
Nate was born on June 5, 1943, in Wabash, Indiana, to the Reverend Herman and Estella Weber. He grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, as one of six children, with four brothers and one sister. As the son of a minister, Nate’s life was shaped by faith and service. He carried his Christian faith throughout his life and was an active member of the First United Presbyterian Church.
Nate is survived by his beloved wife, Becky, with whom he shared 61 years of marriage; their children, John (Kim) Weber of Richmond, Indiana, and Julie (Andy) Pulfer of Bellefontaine; and his cherished grandchildren, Elizabeth (Omar), Benjamin Nathan, Jack, Collen (Mallory), Austen (Brooke), and Bexlee. In addition, Nate is survived by his brothers, Noel (Phylis) and Stanley (Kitkanok) Weber; his sister, Charmaine McClure; his brothers-in-law, Larry Katner and Carl Morris; and many nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends who loved him dearly. His family was the center of his world, and being a dad and grandpa brought him tremendous love and joy.
Nate devoted 35 years to teaching Industrial Arts, a career he truly loved. His students appreciated and respected him, and teaching was much more than a job—it was an opportunity to share his skills, practical knowledge, and belief in doing a job the right way. During the summers, he also worked as a skilled builder.
He was deeply selfless, consistently putting the needs of others before his own. He believed in doing what was right and lived by strong principles. Described as “a true gentleman’s gentleman,” Nate always showed kindness and appreciation.
Their love lives on in the family they raised and the memories they made together—a lasting bond that death cannot erase.
Nate was a man of many talents, creativity, and remarkable patience. He enjoyed building and creating, including an elaborate model train layout, as well as model boats and airplanes. A gifted craftsman, he also built two homes for his family. He loved fishing and boating and especially enjoyed living near beautiful Indian Lake, where he could spend time enjoying the water and outdoors.
Nate will be remembered for his faith, his love of teaching and building, his gentle humor, his selflessness, and, above all, the love he gave so freely. The lessons he taught, the homes he built, and the family he cherished remain his lasting legacy. He will be profoundly missed and forever loved.
Pastor Greg Menssen will officiate a funeral service on Saturday, November 7, 2026, at 1:00 PM at the First United Presbyterian Church, 117 North Main Street, Bellefontaine, OH 43311. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, on the lower level of the church. A private burial will follow at Bellefontaine Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made to the Logan County Historical Society to support the restoration of the caboose (via PayPal @LoganCountyHistoryOH - https://www.paypal.com/paypalme/LoganCountyHistoryOH?country.x=US&locale.x=en_US). It is our hope that, through this restoration, his love of trains will live on, inspiring future generations of children and families who visit the museum to discover and enjoy the history of railroading.
