Maria "Manel" Gomes dos Santos

Maria “Manel” Gomes dos Santos, age 74, of Bellefontaine, Ohio, peacefully passed away on September 6, 2026, surrounded by love.

Born with a vibrant spirit, Manel lived a life full of energy, movement, and deep devotion to her family. She had a lifelong passion for physical fitness, finding immense joy in gymnastics and working out. Manel loved to explore the world through travel, but she also found profound comfort in the quiet, creative art of crocheting—leaving behind beautiful handmade treasures, including the scarves she loved so dearly.

She was the beloved wife of the late Richard McGehee, with whom she shared many wonderful years. Maria was a dedicated and loving mother to her son, Juan G. McMackin, and his wife, Suzanne. She was also the world's proudest grandmother to her three cherished grandchildren: Johnathon (10), William (8), and Temperance McMackin (3), who brought endless light and joy to her life.

Though ocean distances separated them, Manel’s bond with her international family remained unbreakable. She is survived by her fiercely loving sister, Ana Maria (Eduardo) Gomez, two nieces Gabriela and Diana, and an extended family spanning across the globe who held her tightly in their hearts every single day.

A private viewing will be held on Friday September 11th 2026, at Eichholtz Funeral Home in Bellefontaine. Because Manel’s family is spread beautifully across the world, a live virtual viewing will be hosted via Zoom so that all who loved her can gather to say goodbye. For Zoom meeting links and access details, please reach out directly to Juan or Suzanne McMackin at 937-430-1498 or 614-867-4367.
