Kathleen Greer “Kathy” Horton, 80, of Bellefontaine, passed away on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, in The Campbell Place, Bellefontaine.
She was born in Vallejo, California on April 27, 1945, the daughter of the late Dorothy May Bible.
On January 11, 1968, she married John R. Horton, and he survives in Bellefontaine.
Also surviving are two children, Becky (Steve) Oaks of Rushsylvania, OH and John R. Horton, Jr. of East Liberty, OH, four grandchildren, Tyler (Sara) Horton, Samantha Morgan, Travis (Destiny Wells) Hower, Alexis (Lucas) Augustine of Hilliard, and nine great grandchildren: Grayson, Hadley, River, Jaxton, Ryker, Zayden, Kyson, Tristen, and Roselyn, several cousins including, Bobby (Carol) Klienoder of Elyria, OH, and an aunt, Margaret Bible of East Liberty, OH.
Kathy moved to Bellefontaine with her family in 1955, after her family purchased the farm that was formerly Hillcrest Dairy. She graduated from Logan Hills High School in 1963 and after high school, she was a caregiver for her great aunt, Ruthella Dixon. After caring for her, she got a job as a secretary for the Bureau of Workers Comp (BWC), Columbus District Office in Columbus, Ohio and that is where she would meet her future husband, John.
After she and John were married, they moved back to Bellefontaine in 1977 and bought a farm in Jefferson Township. She would later work for the Ohio Hi-Point Career Center (JVS) in adult education, where she would retire from in 2004.
In 1980, she and John, along with four other couples, were assigned by Zanesfield Area of Commerce to organize and run the Logan Hills Festival in 1980. They accepted the task and co-chaired the committee for the next 20 years. In 1987, Kathy and John were selected as the Zanesfield Area Citizens of the Year. Kathy remained involved with the Festival as well as performing in the Taloga Outdoor Drama for 43 years.
Kathy was a member of the Zanesfield United Methodist Church, were she served on several committees, a past president of the Bellefontaine Lions Club, a member of Logan County Horse Council, a member of the Logan County Farm Bureau, where she served on the board, volunteered as a 4H Leader for several years with her husband, and was a member of Central Ohio Waggoneers (Wagon Train).
In 2007, she and John hosted the Vietnam Units Reunion for the 57th Assault Helicopter Co. in Dayton, Ohio. She had a fondness for horses and was preceded in death by her favorite horse, Misty as well as her favorite cat, Midnight.
Pastor April Phillips will officiate a funeral service on Monday, October 6, 2025, at 11:00am in the Eichholtz & Daring Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N. Main St., Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311. Visitation will be on Sunday, from 2 to 5pm at the Bellefontaine funeral home. Burial will follow the funeral service on Monday, in Zanesfield Cemetery.
