Julia Joan Heminger

Julia Joan Heminger, 92, of Bellefontaine, passed away Friday evening, September 25, 2026, at Logan Acres Care Center.

Joan was born in Roundhead, Ohio, on November 19, 1933, to the late William “Carl” and Mattie Evelyn (Hites) Baughman. She married Donald M. Heminger on March 30, 1949, in Newport, Kentucky, and he preceded her in death on November 7, 2007. Joan was also preceded in death by a grandson William Matthew Nichols; 4 sisters: Dorcas Robb, Margaret “Peg” Robb, Ada Robb, and Vivian Schrader; and 2 brothers: Harold Baughman and Arthur Baughman.

Joan is survived by a daughter Margie (Bill) Nichols of Bellefontaine; a son Donald (Sandy Griffith) Heminger of Newark, Ohio; 3 grandchildren: Gregory (Sheila Lynn) Nichols, Justin (Carolee) Nichols, and Dustin (Tara) Nichols; 15 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Joan worked at Sperry’s in Belle Center for many years, and while living in Arizona she worked in the Mesa School District. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and taught Vacation Bible School and Sunday School. Joan enjoyed traveling and taking cruises, decorating her home, and baking breads, candies and cookies for her family and friends. Joan also liked to do crafts, crochet, painting and even wrote church songs. She was a Bible Study group leader at Lutheran Community, and cherished her time with “the Lunch Bunch” and the Huntsville Alumni group.

Pastor Jeff Willetts will officiate Joan’s funeral service on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at noon at Calvary Baptist Church, 1140 Rush Ave. Bellefontaine, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in Fairview Cemetery, West Liberty.
