John Wayne Godwin

John Wayne Godwin of Bellefontaine, Ohio, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025, just two days shy of his 101st birthday. He was born in Huntsville, Ohio, on August 25, 1924, to the late Jacob L. and Erma Ann (Neal) Godwin.

On July 23, 1954, he married Velva M. Lease, and she preceded him in death on June 12, 2021.

John is survived by his nieces and nephews: Steve, Jeff, John, and Diane Godwin, Teresa Davidson Rich, Pamela Davidson LaBar, and Gary Davidson. He is preceded in death by his brothers: Max (Janet) Godwin, Jack (June) Godwin, and Carl (Norma Jean) Godwin.

John was a 1943 graduate of Huntsville High School. He attended the First United Methodist Church in Bellefontaine and was a former member of the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association. After retirement he enjoyed woodworking and making small replicas of buildings around Logan County.

Pastor Joe Ziraldo will officiate a graveside service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Huntsville Cemetery.
