John David Eaton, 79, of Bellefontaine, passed away Sunday evening, April 12, 2026, at his home.
He was born in Lima, Ohio, on March 20, 1947, to the late Jack T. and Mary Lou (Williams) Eaton. John married Susan Kay Edmiston on June 19, 1970, and she preceded him in death on November 11, 2010. He was also preceded in death by a son Brian Eaton in 1991.
John is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Kristi and Joseph Loomis of Bellefontaine; and grandsons: Bryce (Maddie) Loomis and Ryan Loomis, both of Bellefontaine; a sister Rebecca (Robert) Caldwell of Lima; nephew and nieces: Johnny, Jackie, Michelle, and Tiffany.
A graduate of Indian Lake High School, John was a veteran of the US Army and served during the Vietnam War. He retired from Nash Finch after 30 years of service as a truck driver, and was a Teamsters member for 33 years. John was also a member of AmVets Post #39 in Lakeview, Indian Lake Moose Lodge #1533, VFW Post #8832 in Roundhead, and American Legion Post #173 in Bellefontaine. In his spare time, John enjoyed time with his family and buying his “toys” – anything with an engine. He loved riding his motorcycle and was a member of H.O.G. (Harley Owners Group).
Pastor Ward Cartwright will officiate John’s funeral on Friday, April 17, 2026, at 12noon at Eichholtz & Daring Funeral Home & Cremation Center, Bellefontaine, where the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Huntsville Cemetery with military honors provided by members of the Logan County Veteran Honor Guard.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project (www.woundedwarriorproject.org), or any hospice organization.
