Joan Burton, 94, of Bellefontaine, peacefully passed away on May 13, 2026, at Otterbein Green Hills Senior Life Community surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 12, 1931, in Logan County, Ohio to the late Guy L. and Elizabeth K. (Miller) Henry.
On June 29, 1951, Joan married William Eugene Burton and he preceded her in death on December 4, 1995. She is also preceded in death by her siblings: Phyllis (William) Minahan, Carl (Joyce) Henry, Julia (Carl) Parson, and Donna Henry.
Joan is survived by her children: Michael E. Burton of Columbus, Dale A. (Carol) Burton of Bellefontaine, Gregory D. Burton of Bellefontaine, and Pamela J. Burton of Columbus; grandchildren: Douglas Burton, Marcus (Lindsey) Burton, Jill (Jon) Knox, Alexander (Stephanie Hoyt) Burton; great-grandchildren: Noah, Amalia, Eleanor, Ezra, Calvin, and Miles; and her sisters: Helen (Robert) Cook of DeGraff and Carol Sue Grow of Walnut Grove, Ohio, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Joan was a member of the Bellefontaine First Church of God and devoted many years to Mary Rutan Hospital, where she held various positions and was known by some as the "grandma on call," always willing to care for babies. She was an excellent baker, known for her carrot cake and apple pie, and enjoyed crocheting, gardening, and canning. Joan’s gentle spirit, kind heart, and easy laugh will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
Pastor Ed Green will officiate a funeral service on Monday, May 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be one hour prior from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., at the Eichholtz & Daring Funeral Home & Cremation Center, 321 N Main Street, Bellefontaine, OH 43311. A burial will follow the service at Highland Memorial Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made in Joan’s memory to a charity of the donor’s choice.
