Jeannette E. Andrews, 95, of Bellefontaine and formerly of Canton, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025, at her residence.
She was born in Canton, Ohio, on September 3, 1929, the daughter of the late Leroy Nathaniel and Mozell Andrews. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Kevin; a daughter, Veronica Andrews; a son-in-law, Rockey Cane; and a sister, Virginia Collins.
She is survived by her children: Sharon Andrews, Edward "Eddie" Andrews, and Karen Cane; her grandchildren: Melinda Tuck, Christopher Mercer, Chrystal Mercer, Rockey Cane II, Lukas Cane, and Veronica Fronczak with her husband Thomas (Tom) Fronczak; and her great-grandchildren: Justice, Ayanna, Amari, Caleb, Chantale, Holden, and Leah.
Jeannette dedicated 31 years of service as a teacher's aide at Crenshaw, Souers, and McKinley, faithfully walking 22 blocks to work each day. She made history as the first Black aide at Lathrop School. In 1946, at the age of 17, she gave her life to Christ and devoted much of her time to her church, where she sang in the choir and became lovingly known as the “peppermint lady," always ready with a peppermint for anyone who needed one.
In 2015, she moved to Bellefontaine to be with her daughter, Karen, and was lovingly cared for by her family— late husband Rockey Sr. and two sons. Her favorite saying was, "Life is what you make it," and she truly lived by those words each and every day.
Pastor Carlos Morris will officiate the funeral service on Saturday, August 9, 2025, at 12:00 noon at Greater Bethel Apostolic Church, 2335 15th St SW, Canton, OH 44706. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in Forest Hill Cemetery, Canton.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Greater Christ Temple,616 W. Chillicothe Ave., Bellefontaine, Ohio 43311.
