Ernest E. “Brother” Carter, 70, of Bellefontaine, passed away Sunday, October 11, 2026, at his residence after a lengthy illness.
He was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on November 25, 1955, the son of the late Ernest H. and Carie Mae (Jones) Carter. He is also preceded in death by a son, Jayson Sims, and three sisters, Alice Wilson, Carolyn Ladd, and Twila Suber.
On February 22, 2003, he married Tami Johns, and she survives along with children, Lauren Carter, Bryant Carter, Kerri Rogan, Shareas Carter, Tamika Carter, and grandchildren, Ruby Jo, Peyton, Garrison, Kyra, Jazz, and Kai, many great grandchildren, five sisters, Elaine (Leonard) Woods, Rhonda Collier, Lena (Jerry) Peaks, Christina (Rick) Williams, and Lorena (Joe) Brenner, special friend, Maurice Wilson, his chess buddy, Rick Carter, and many nieces and nephews.
Brother Carter owned and operated Carter’s Hauling, which he took over from his late father. For the past 23 years, he and his wife, Tami, ran the business together. He valued the conversations he had with his customers and the relationships he built over the years, and he was proud to know that the business he helped build would continue for generations to come.
He was an avid supporter of Bellefontaine Chieftain athletics and could often be found in the front row, megaphone in hand, cheering for his children and the entire Chieftain team. He also enjoyed other sports including cornhole and horseshoes. Throughout his illness, he remained positive and encouraging to all those he came in contact.
