Dorothy Adair Moore Notestine

Dorothy Adair Moore was born in Bellefontaine, Ohio on April 17, 1931, to Albert M. Moore and Helen M. (Lauffer) Moore. She was raised with her 2 younger sisters Joyce J. (Sowers) and Janet (Dearing) with only her youngest sister Janet remaining as of this date. Dorothy graduated from Bellefontaine High School in 1949 where she was a member of the National Honor Society. She married Robert J. Notestine Jr. on August 6, 1950, and celebrated 75 years together prior to his passing on March 9 of this year. They had lived at the Homestead of Logan Acres over 4½ years prior to moving to Logan Acres earlier this year.

Dorothy traveled with Bob to Biloxi, Mississippi in 1952 when he was assigned there by the Air Force and lived there until 1954 when he completed his service. Their oldest son Robert J. Notestine III was born there and he resides in Nashville, Tennessee with his wife Jenny. His first wife Melissa (North) passed away in 2017 and their two married children, Trent (Lisa) and Wesley (Blaine), each reside there.

Their other sons Timothy L. Notestine and Mark A. Notestine were born in Bellefontaine. Tim lives in Bellefontaine and is married to Kathleen (Kitty McAdams) and they have two sons, Dak (Alex) who resides in Blue Ash, Ohio with their son Niko and Dylan (Daniel) who resides in Wilton Manors, Florida. Mark lives in Indianapolis with his wife Peggy (Miller) and their children Aaron (Elizabeth) lives in Wisconsin with their daughter Siena while Anna (Ben) Ward lives in Nashville with their children Maddie and James.

She and Bob had an extended family that included her sisters' families and Bob's sister's family and her and his parents while they were alive. She had 8 nieces and nephews who she loved dearly.

Dorothy had been a stay-at-home mom who volunteered at Mary Rutan Hospital (with the Mary Rutan Hospital Guild) prior to she and Bob purchasing The Dutch Mill Restaurant in 1969 which they operated as the Bob "N". She gradually worked her way up to manager and then went to work at the Huntington National Bank (formerly Bellefontaine National Bank) after selling the restaurant in 1972. She worked at the bank as a teller and then personal banker for almost 24 years until she retired in 1996. She briefly worked for Edward Jones in retirement.

Dorothy's greatest joys were her family and her Church home, First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ where she was a lifelong member. She was a Cub Scout den mother, and volunteered reading to grade school children. After her sons were raised, she helped with the grandkids whenever she could, and the stories of that time are too numerous to allow us to write them down here. Dorothy was also a long-time member of the Bellefontaine Exchange Club.

Dorothy will be missed as pretty much everyone who knew her liked her and if there were cookies and coffee available the conversation might last a long time.

She was blessed to have excellent care these past 5 years at the Homestead and Logan Acres where new friendships were made and some old ones renewed. May God bless you all.

Rev. Kevin C. Greenwald will officiate a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, September 14, 2026, at the First Christian Church, 215 E Sandusky Avenue, Bellefontaine. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service on Monday, September 14th, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in West Liberty.
