Curtis Monroe Butler, 82, of Bellefontaine, passed away Wednesday morning, October 1, 2025, with his family at his side.
Curtis was born in Morehead, Kentucky, on December 14, 1942, to the late Ersel and Effie (Johnson) Butler. He married Sylvia Lee Stafford on May 20, 1961, in Morehead, Kentucky, and she preceded him in death on March 21, 2017. Curtis was also preceded in death by 3 sisters: Bertleen Short, Loraine Blancett, and Joretta Garner; and 2 brothers: Vernon Butler and Elwood Butler.
Curtis is survived by sons: Mark (Jill) Butler, and Danny Wayne Butler; 3 grandchildren: Landyn (Brittany) Butler, Sydney (Derek) Gamble, and Jordan Butler; 2 great-grandchildren: Brooks Carter Gamble and Sutton Lou Butler; a sister Arby (John) Caudill; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Curtis worked for many years at Westinghouse, then went to Belletech in Bellefontaine and retired as a Senior Coordinator. Following retirement, he worked at Auto Zone and as a grounds keeper at Benjamin Logan Schools. He served as a township trustee for 20 years in Jefferson Township, and coached summer youth baseball in Zanesfield for 23 years.
Curtis enjoyed bike rides, taking walks, snowbirding in Ft. Myers, and he took great pride in maintaining his home and yard. Kentucky basketball was a favorite of his, and he was an avid supporter of his grandchildren’s activities. He was an active athletic booster for Benjamin Logan and was a member of the Friday night football chain gang for many years.
Private services will be held at a later date by the family.
