Connie Sue Evans, 73, of Huntsville, passed away at 9:09 a.m. on Monday, May 18, 2026, at her residence. She was born in Huntington, West Virginia on March 14, 1953, to the late Bruce and Mabel (Hoskinson) Hensley.
Connie is survived by her daughter, Valerie (John Brown) Hensley; grandchildren, Brittany (Juan) Torres, Ashley (Steven) Carlson, Chelsea (Gage Marcellus) Carr, and Karu Brown; great grandchildren, Daniel, Alex, Jasmine, Lily, Gabriel, Levi, and Lovelynn; sister, Linda Martin; brothers, Anthony Hensley, and Ron (Debbie) Hensley; and nieces and nephews, Regina, Crystal, Rebecca, Christy, John, Jeremy B. and Jeremy M.
Along with her parents, Connie was preceded in death by her life partner, John “Jack” Cemer in May 2020; sister, Virginia Hensley; and brother, Ronald B. Hensley.
Connie was a nurse for 30 years, spending many years in the ER and ICU. Some would even say Connie ran the ER more so than the doctor on call. After her nursing career ended, Connie met her soulmate and life partner, John “Jack” Cemer. Connie then became the Director of the New Market at HS Citrus out of Ft. Pierce, Florida. Connie was known for her relationships and connection with “her” truckers and the truckers felt the same way about Connie. She was a beacon of hope to many young women who met her, knowing she came from humble beginnings only to become a strong successful woman.
Connie not only strived for greatness in work, but also in her relationships. She cared for her daughter and grandchildren fiercely. Connie was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, and aunt. Connie was always known as a classy generous woman. She was very strong-willed, determined and intelligent. But above all else Connie was a strong believer in Jesus Christ her Lord and personal savior.
Connie also loved to travel, and her love of travel took her all over the world seeing amazing places like all over Europe twice and the Caribbean Islands. Some of her favorite spots were Paris, France and the Bahamas.
Connie was known as “Mall Maw” to some and those who knew her as “Mall Maw” will miss her deeply.
A Celebration of Life gathering will be held by the family at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Dementia Society of America, PO Box 600, Doylestown, PA 18901.
